About Bruce Sullivan
Bruce began using online services in 1989. He developed the Oikos Web site in August 1995. The centerpiece of Oikos is the Oikos Product Directory database of energy-saving and environmentally-responsible building materials.
Bruce recieved a BS in Forestry from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Next, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he earned a Master of Science in Natural Resource Management/Environmental Education in 1981.
He moved to Oregon in 1982 to become Energy Agent with the Oregon State University Extension Energy Program. He also worked for Eugene Water & Electric Board in marketing communications for energy- efficiency programs. He has extensive experience as a trainer and writer. For several years he was the energy columnist for the Journal of Light Construction. For nine years he served as writer and editor of the building-industry newsletter, Energy Source Builder.
Bruce has served on the board of the Solar Energy Association of Oregon and as the President of the SW Oregon Chapter of the Northwest Ecobuilding Guild. He was a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the Lorane Rural Fire Protection District. He currently serves on the board of Bend Area Habitat for Humanity.
Since 2005, Bruce has worked at Earth Advantage Institute as a Green Building Consultant serving central Oregon. In this capacity, he works with builders and designers who want to make their projects as good as they can be. He is a green rater, verifying homes under the standards of Earth Advantage, ENERGY STAR and LEED for Homes. Bruce is also a certified Home Energy Rater and teaches the Sustainable Homes Professional certification course in Bend, Oregon.
