Foam Panel With Plastic Studs
Most foam core panel systems rely on structural sheathing (plywood or oriented strand board) for strength. For structural support, Ray-Core's 4 x 8 ft. panels have imbedded plastic studs made from recycled PVC. The hollow plastic studs serve as conduits for plumbing and wiring.
The panels weigh only 38 pounds each. When used for one and two story walls, the panels need no additional structural support. However, floor and ceiling installations require joists or purlins. Wood 2x4s are required for corners and plates. The panels snap together with plastic splines and PVC cement.
The aged insulation value of 3.5 in. of polyisocyanurate should be about R-25. The polyisocyanurate foam panels are faced with foil. Siding and drywall are attached in the field.
