Folding Insulated Concrete Forms

Until now insulated concrete forms have offered a "pay-me-now-or-pay-me-later" type choice. You could choose preassembled blocks that are expensive to transport. Or, you could choose sheets of insulation with form ties requiring hours of assembly.

Fold Form avoids both problems. These preassembled units are two sheets of two-inch expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation connected by a plastic tie. Unlike other preassembled systems, the tie is creased, allowing the form to fold flat. So, three times as many forms can fit in the average cubic foot of shipping payload.

The ties are concealed inside the foam. Since the tie ends provide support for wall finishes, their locations are marked with ink dots. Dovetail joints on the ends and interlocking teeth on the top and bottom hold the form sections together. Additional bracing is required during the pour.

According to the company, the EPS foam used in Fold Form has a density of 2.0 lb./cu. ft. and a total insulating value of R-18.
