AAB Insulated Concrete Forms

In the growing field of insulated concrete forms, the Blue Maxx Wall System from AAB Building Systems, Inc. offers a few features that make it unique.
First the basics. AAB forms are stackable blocks made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), a material free from ozone-depleting CFCs or HCFCs. The sides are connected with a plastic web that allows less thermal bridging than metal webs. Notches in the web accepts horizontal re-bar. The one-inch-wide ends of the plastic webs are visible so workers can easily attach siding and drywall to them.
AAB stands out for two reasons:
- Each side of the block is made from 2-5/8-inch-thick EPS, giving the unit an insulating value of R-25. That makes it one of the leaders for insulation value.
- A variety of specialized form units are offered. An adjustable corner allows walls to meet at virtually any angle. Another unit has an extended brick ledge to support exterior brick veneer.
The AAB system has been approved by several code agencies, including ICBO, SBBCI and BOCA.
