The expanded polystyrene inserts are designed to be slipped into the cores of the blocks before the blocks are laid. The inserts can be custom-cut to fit blocks from 6 inches to 12 inches thick. The R-value of the finished wall depends on the density of the concrete used in the block, but according to the manufacturer it ranges from R-5.9 to R-11.4.
