WheatBoard is good news for the makers of furniture and cabinets. It has structural and tooling characteristics that are superior to the highest grade wood-based particleboard, but offers several distinct advantages. The raw material is wheat straw--an abundant resource that renews itself each year. WheatBoard uses an adhesive that contains no formaldehyde. Plus the material is stronger, lighter, more resistant to moisture and easier to tool than particleboard.
"We have a limited supply of product available for a select group of customers that will work with us on a long-term basis," says Kevin Smith, sales manager for United Board Group. New manufacturing facilities coming online in 1997 will double production making the WheatBoard more widely available.
