Manual-on Occupancy Sensor
Although they are increasingly common in offices, occupancy sensors cause some confusion in homes when visitors fumble with a "light switch" that lacks the familiar toggle or touch plate. Novitas offers a unique occupancy sensor--called the SuperSwitch Mini Model 01-210--that allows you to turn the lights on and off manually. The device also can turn lights on automatically like other occupancy sensors. A concealed switch on the unit changes the operation between manual-on mode and automatic-on mode. Manual control is more than a convenience. It increases energy savings by allowing people to use daylight when available. If the lights are turned off manually, they will stay off as long as movement is detected in the room.
The sensor fits in a standard switch box and uses low-frequency sound waves to sense movements in rooms up to 300 sq. ft. Because it can detect minor movements, it uses a six- to eight-minute time delay before automatically shutting off the lights, which is shorter than some other sensors. The SuperSwitch Mini operates at either 120V or 277V and controls both incandescent and fluorescent lamps. Although the SuperSwitch Mini is designed for offices, the choice of manual or automatic operation makes it suitable for homes, too.
