Interior

The floor plan uses a great room concept to get the most spacious feel from a small space. Don't try to take a nap here, other spaces in the house allow relaxation.

One corner of the great room holds the small kitchen.

Built-ins often save space. The corner bench allows the table to hug the corner. While not actually attached to anything, the table's timber and porcelain tile construction make it so heavy that it might as well be.

The sealed combustion gas fireplace is not yet operational. Because the performance of the heat pump/hydronic radiant heat is being monitored, this alternate heat source cannot be used.

A slab of figured Maple serves as the mantle. Cascadia Forest Goods supplied the FSC-certified mantle and safety railings across the tall windows

A couple of interior spaces don't have windows. In this case an obscure glass door was an inexpensive way to share light from the entry while still protecting privacy.

The stair stringers are 4x10 beams that were reclaimed from a small industrial building near Portland and supplied by Endura Hardwoods. The treads are FSC-certified Douglas Fir milled at Kaster's Kustom Cutting.
