Green Builders Group Debuts in Connecticut

Bloomfield, Conn.—This Saturday April 18, the Connecticut Emerging Green Builders (CTEGB) chapter, the official state chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, will hold a kick-off event in observation of Earth Day. The group's mission is to share member knowledge and passion to promote sustainability in the communities where they live and work. The Earth Day Cleanup is the first of several events and programs that will focus on education, awareness, and community outreach.

Saturday's event will be held at the Historic Church of the Good Shepherd in Hartford's Charter Oak neighborhood and is sponsored by the Knox Park Foundation of Hartford, Keep America Beautiful- Great American Cleanup campaign, the City of Hartford and Telemundo-Hartford/Springfield. Members will help clean-up the grounds of the church.

In addition, the group has also invited students from the Academy of Engineering and Green Technology at Hartford High to join them. CTEGB's Co-Chair Rebeccah Eldridge, LEED® AP states, "Connecticut Emerging Green Builders hopes to inspire community participation and excitement in making Connecticut a leader in sustainability and the green movement. There are many young activists throughout the state and we hope to use their energy and dedication to advance awareness in our peers."

The CTEGB is a sub-committee of the Connecticut Green Building Council, the recognized state chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. As its name suggests, the group is focused on the architecture, engineering, and construction industry, but is also a resource for young professionals interested in sustainability in other professions. Led by co-chairs Lynne Panagotopulos, LEED® AP and Rebeccah Eldridge, LEED® AP, CTEGB is bringing smart, innovative energy to Connecticut.
