RIMA International Gets New Mounting Method Approved

The Reflective Insulation Manufacturers Association International (RIMA-I) has been working diligently over the past two years with ASTM E5.22 to develop a mounting method for reflective insulation and radiant barriers. At the ASTM E05 meeting last December, the new mounting method made it through the voting cycle and is now a new document within the title ASTM E2599 - 09 Standard Practice for Specimen Preparation and Mounting of Reflective Insulation Materials and Radiant Barrier Materials for Building Applications to Assess Surface Burning Characteristics.

The new mounting method requires reflective insulation and radiant barriers that are intented to be installed exposed or with adjacent airspaces to be tested on frames that provide an airspace between the material and the top of the tunnel. This would apply to materials used in the building envelope and in HVAC systems where the manufacturer requires an airspace be provided to obtain the thermal resistance needed.

RIMA International believes that the new mounting method is an improvement over other mounting methods for products such as these and ensure the end user that the products they use are both safe and effective.

The Reflective Insulation Manufacturer's Association International is a group of dedicated people working together to propagate the knowledge and use of reflective insulations and radiant barriers. RIMA-I has been the major force in establishing fair ASTM standards for testing and installation procedures. RIMA-I welcomes all who are interested in promoting and directing the growth of the industry.
