RASTRA

RASTRA is an insulated concrete form system with a difference. First, 80 percent of each building "element" is expanded polystyrene that has been recycled from the consumer waste stream. The other 20 percent is Portland cement, which discourages insects attacking the material. Each element is 10 ft. long with vertical and horizontal cavities. This post-and-beam design provides ample structural strength, but uses less concrete than other types of insulated concrete forms. Stucco is often used to finish exterior walls. However, wood siding can be attached directly to the Rastra elements with adhesive, which is also the method used for attaching drywall to the interior. Rastra has passed a five-hour fire test and can be engineered to withstand wind loads exceeding 140 mph. Rastra has been available in the U.S. since 1990, but has been used in Europe for more than 25 years.
