Isobord is a premium engineered board product made from straw fibers and non-toxic resins. It is ideally suited for normal or sensitive applications in both residential and commercial settings. All structural properties exceed ANSI M-3 standards for particleboard and in some cases ANSI standards for medium density fiberboard (MDF). The price usually falls between particleboard and MDF, too. Instead of formaldyhyde-based glue, Isobord uses non-toxic isocyanurate resins (MDI). Together, straw fibers and MDI adhesives create superior properties of moisture swell, elasticity, internal bond, density and strength -- all without harmful emissions.
Isobord comes in a variety of thicknesses from 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches thick. Standard panels are 4'x8', 4'x9', 4'x10', 4'x12' and 5'x8'. Isobord can be used for furniture, door cores and cabinet cases. It can be painted or laminated with wood veneers, melamine and vinyl. Straw is a renewable resource that replenishes itself each year. Wheat farmers must remove straw residue following the annual harvest . In the past, they had two options. Plowing the straw back into the soil was expensive and burning the fields created air pollution problems. With the introduction of Isobord, local farmers now sell their straw residue to the Isobord. What was once a financial and environmental burden to farmers is now a revenue-producing secondary crop. Isobord was recently purchased by Dow BioProducts Ltd.
